What Are Carousel Templates?
Carousel templates display up to 10 scrollable cards in a single WhatsApp message. Each card contains a media item (image, video, or document), a body text, and optional buttons. They are ideal for showcasing products, services, or options side by side.
Format Requirement
All cards in a carousel must use the same media format. You cannot mix images and videos within the same carousel. Choose one format — IMAGE, VIDEO, or DOCUMENT — when creating the template, and all cards will follow it.
Creating a Carousel Template
- Open Settings → WhatsApp Templates and click New Template.
- Set the category (usually Marketing) and language.
- In the Body section, write the main message text that appears above the carousel.
- Click Add Carousel to switch to carousel mode.
- Select the Media Format for all cards (Image, Video, or Document).
- Add your first card:
- Upload or enter the media URL.
- Write the card body text (up to 160 characters).
- Add 0–2 buttons per card.
- Click Add Card to add more cards (up to 10).
- Submit for Meta approval.
Sending a Carousel in a Conversation
Once the template is approved, open a conversation and click the Templates icon. Select your carousel template, fill in any variables, and send. The customer will see the scrollable card view in WhatsApp.
Carousel in Campaigns
Carousel templates work in campaigns the same way as regular templates. Select the template when creating a campaign, map variables from your contact list columns, and schedule the send.
Best Practices
- Use square images (800×800 px) for consistent display across devices.
- Keep card body text concise — long text gets truncated on small screens.
- Use the same button type across all cards for a coherent user experience.
- Test the carousel by sending to your own number before launching a campaign.
